Music Box Films is a Chicago-based company founded in 2007 that distributes and releases foreign-language and independent films across theatrical, home video, and video-on-demand markets in the United States. It is independently owned and operated by the Southport Music Box Corporation, which also owns and operates Chicago's historic Music Box Theatre. Its early releases included Tell No One, which became the highest-grossing foreign film in the U.S. in 2008. The company has released numerous acclaimed titles, including the Swedish Millennium trilogy adaptations and the Polish film Ida, which won the 2015 Academy Award for Best International Feature. Note: its core business is film distribution/releasing rather than original production.
