Essanay Studio and Lighting Company
1346 N NORTH BRANCH ST, CHICAGO, IL, 60642
Essanay Studio and Lighting Company is an operating Chicago soundstage and grip/lighting house located at 1346 N. North Branch Street, near Goose Island. It offers shooting stages, including a roughly 7,000-square-foot main stage and a smaller secondary stage, along with extensive lighting and grip equipment rental, dollies, cranes, lighting trucks and generators for film, television and commercial productions. The company shares its name with the historic silent-era Essanay Studios (founded 1907 by George Spoor and Gilbert Anderson, famed for Charlie Chaplin films), though the original landmark studio building in Uptown is now part of St. Augustine College. The modern Essanay Studio and Lighting Company is a distinct, independently run production facility.
