The Department of Motion Pictures is a New Orleans-based production company producing narrative and documentary features and series, co-founded and led by Academy Award-nominated producer Josh Penn. Its credits include Beasts of the Southern Wild, which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Camera d'Or at Cannes and earned four Oscar nominations, as well as Patti Cake$, the documentary 32 Sounds and the series Philly D.A. The company has earned recognition at Sundance, Telluride and Cannes. Penn has since also launched a new company, Serenade.
