Influential American and Polish journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian.
Anne Applebaum has written extensively about communism and the development of civil society in Central and Eastern Europe. She is also the director of the Transitions Forum at the Legatum Institute in London.
Applebaum has also been an editor at The Economist, and a member of the editorial board of The Washington Post. Applebaum specialises in Russian history – she authored critically acclaimed books Gulag: A History (2004) and Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944 – 1956 (2012).
